Autumn 1692. In a small village near Boston, Abigail and Betty lead a quiet life. Everything changes when their father, Samuel Parris, hires a new servant named Tituba. Strange events seem to occur in the presence of this mysterious woman: doors slamming shut on their own, candles extinguishing themselves… And when a cholera epidemic shakes the village, a climate of fear sets in.
Witchcraft is on everyone's mind. A delegation of inquisitors arrives in Salem and arrests begin. Both intimidated and impressed by their servant, whom they suspect of being a witch, Abigail and Betty discover magical powers within themselves that they struggle to control.
Tituba will take the two girls under her wing and teach them the basics of magic. Soon, other women in Salem learn that they too have the "witch's breath," which ignites general apprehension in the village and leads to a proliferation of witchcraft convictions.
