Bulgaria is supported by the magnificent Veela who instantly enchant all spectators - including Ireland's supporters - until thousands of little goblins launch into an explosive show of their own, forming a giant hand to give a very rude sign to the Veela, on the other side of the field...
Well before the publication of the fourth volume in the series, Rowling had warned that it would be darker than the previous one, and it is true that every moment of hilarity is matched by a moment of fear where we fear for Harry's life, the emotions raised by reading the book being commensurate with the dangers faced by the hero. Throughout the story, new characters are evoked such as Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody, a wizard hunter who might well succumb to total paranoia with age, or Rita Skeeter who hovers around Hogwarts in search of a sensational article.
