Born to Believe contains universal positive messages appealing to those searching for meaning and their place in a turbulent world. Brothers Butch Carter (former Head Coach, Toronto Raptors) and Cris Carter (Wide Receiver, Minnesota Vikings) detail what qualities they adopted in their individual quests to be sports stars, business entrepreneurs and positive role models.

Including quotes from people that Butch and Cris revere, this unusual ³flip-format² book has each brother on a front, so a reader can follow the thoughts and extraordinary voice of each author. This unique format also encourages readers to answer questions and note personal goals.

About the Author:

As the second youngest of seven children, Cris Carter was largely raised by his mother and three brothers and sisters, including co-author Butch Carter, in Middletown, Ohio. Cris continues to build on his reputation in the National Football League (NFL) as a star receiver, record holder and award winner. Most recently, he was named the first recipient of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award for community activities in January 2000, and was the 1999 recipient of the Byron @#179;Whizzer² White Award by the NFL Players Association.

Making seven consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl, Cris ranks fourth in NFL history in career receptions, the second among active players. He ranks second in NFL history in touchdown receptions, 10th in NFL history in total touchdowns and is one of four active players in the all-time top 10. He holds nearly every Viking receiving record, and has broken the 100-yard receiving plateau 35 times in his NFL career, leading the Vikings in receptions for a record eight straight seasons. A dedicated athlete, Cris holds the team record for the most consecutive games started by any wide receiver.

He was claimed off waivers in 1990 from the Philadelphia Eagles, after being selected in the fourth round of the supplemental 1987 draft. Cris earned first-team All-American honors in 1986 and was a two-time Big Ten selection at Ohio State, finishing as the Buckeyes' all-time leader in receptions and touchdown catches. He ranks second in school history and set a Rose Bowl receiving record as a freshman. Cris also scored 1,600 career points in high school basketball before choosing a career in football.

Ordained as a minister off-season in 1996, Cris is active in ³Cris¹ C.A.U.S.E.² (Christian Athletes United for Spiritual Empowerment), and the Big Brother-Big Sister program. With college roommate William White and NFL colleague, he established the Carter-White Charitable Foundation and frequently speaks in schools about substance abuse prevention. Cris and his wife Melanie have two children, Duron and Monterae.
