The Best of Abraham Gesner

Scientist and inventor, Abraham Gesner (1797-1864), captivated audiences with lectures given throughout the Maritime provinces and beyond. When he was not recounting his travels through unexplored wilderness he spoke of lighting cities with a fuel he had just developed called kerosene. This discovery laid the foundation for out modern petrochemical industry. But Gesner had equally starting ideas on agriculture, immigration, native rights and a variety of other topics. This book, which contains some of the best of Gesner's valuable and extensive output, is long overdue.
